In September of 1986, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women conducted a colloquy entitled Inheriting the Legacy of Leadership: A 20-Year Blueprint for Black Women at the Aspen Institute in Maryland. The colloquy was structured to scrutinize the dimensions of power as exercised by leaders who effect public policy in the private and public sectors and to render an action plan for leadership and institutional development focused on Black women. To provide a template for the colloquy's discussion, NCBW commissioned Louis Harris and Associates to conduct a nationwide survey of leaders and four renowned Black female scholars to address topics related to Black youths, economic empowerment, political empowerment and succession planning.
